We first reported on this yesterday, and now Politico has more on the Obama administrations attempts to backtrack on the snafus on LGBT issues. First, the White House has confirmed Obama’s Pride celebration:
Obama will host a White House event next Monday “to recognize the accomplishments of LGBT Americans,” White House spokesman Shin Inouye said. However, he indicated that the gathering was not arranged in response to a recent outcry from the gay community over the administration’s legal tactics in gay rights cases and the administration’s lack of movement to repeal the ban on gays in the military.
Yeah, right. Not in response to any outcry. Well, then what is the reponse to the outcry over the Justice Department’s tone-deaf defense of the Defense of Marriage act? Lawyers from the DOJ will meet with representatives of Lambda Legal, presumably to discuss just why DOJ’s DOMA filing was so offensive.
