Despite our big loss in Maine, and Virginia’s election of a rabid homophobe as governor, there is some good news to come out of election night. Here’s the rundown.
- In Washington state, an “everything but marriage” domestic partnership law appears to have passed by a narrow margin.
- Lesbian finishes first, but must face runoff, in race to be Houston’s mayor.
- Akron, Ohio elected a lesbian to its city council.
- Detroit elects first openly gay city council member.
- Maplewood, Minnesota also elected a gay man to its city council.
- Kalamazoo, Michigan voters approve city ordinance banning discrimination because of sexual orientation.
