The Salt Lake City Libertarian Examiner has a story about “America First,” a group that “has gone on the offensive and taken out a full page ad in the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune with the intention of protesting the recent events and press coverage favourable to homosexuals.”
Before getting to the details about this hate group, I should note that the Examiner’s article has a pejorative tone when referring the LGBT people and equal rights. Take this for example: “With the passage of Washington State’s ‘Everything But Marriage’ and other similar actions across America favouring homosexuals…” “Homosexuals?” Is this 1970? Is the Examiner really implying equal rights are “special rights” by saying “favouring”? The article says these haters are “claim to be speaking for the conservative underdogs…the only thing left out was the threat that if you did not act within twenty four hours something very horrible would happen to a loved one.” Since when are conservatives underdogs in Utah?
The Examiner goes on: “But there is a darker, less Christian side to ‘America First’. Not the least of which is the renaming of homosexuals as ‘anti-species’ (dubbed so due to the claim that homosexuals do not continue the human species) continuing that they are depraved and threatening the sanctity of American children and families with their liberal agenda.” Uhm, the stuff above wasn’t dark? It was Christian?
In the end, though, the author comes around to recognizing the group for the haters they are: “The more I read the ad and later their web site, the clearer it became that this group just needs to repent and reevaluate their agenda….Additionally, the mere mention that the homosexuals could somehow control the Mormon church to any end is laughable…What is equally amazing is that with the bad grammar, and poorly structured arguments.”
“America First” is reprehensible. But the Examiner’s article isn’t great either.
Now, if this the guy who managed to completely mangle English in this article things the group’s website is full of “bad grammer,” well, it must be pretty damn bad.
